One of the oddities found in some fountain pen aficionados is the willingness to ask a question like, “Is that black ink really black?” I’m not very fussy, but I do understand the question; some black inks are rather more in the stygian direction, while others are just a rather dark grey. Since there are also some inks that are grey by choice, I’m going to throw them in with the grey by accident blacks to give the latter some sense of truly belonging.
