This is a straight alphabetic list of pen makers whose works I’ve had the pleasure to examine; if I haven’t looked at a particular pen, it won’t appear here, but a single example of a numerous tribe allows me to go on at some length. Under each heading you will find a brief description of the maker’s career and fate– in some cases extremely brief, where information is wanting.
A general caution about all the information found here: I am fallible. I try to accurate, but I may occasionally fail. Try to confirm with another source before treating what I write as absolutely factual. This is especially important in the area of dates; while one can frequently say firmly that a pen was introduced in a given year, the official end of production does not necessarily mean the end of sales, since many makers would carry on making a discontinued pen as long as parts were around. If something I’ve written is particularly egregious or patently misleading, please let me know, and I’ll do what I can to fix things. |
Another note, about the pictures you’ll find in the pages linked below: shortly before I began the current update of this site, I came into the necessary equipment to make all the photographs of a consistent scale. All profile pictures of pen which don’t have a red border around them are to this uniform scale. This means that if you want to get a sense of the relative sizes of some pens, you need only open the pictures in adjoining browser windows.
