Apart from the impressions on barrel and clip, the only substantial difference between this and the Waterman 52 is the way the lever is mounted– unlike Waterman\’s lever-box, this mechanism is rather more like older Sheaffers, with the lever held in by a pin driven through the barrel, although it works a pressure bar very much in the Waterman pattern, without a j-bar or spring and relying on the sac itself to return the lever to starting point. I expect that it was trying to make up for the (justifiable) perception as a lesser marque than Waterman by appealing to patriotism with a model name like that.
