The first year models for the Touchdown filling system were a
relatively wide-bodied pen, similar to the vacuum-fillers which they
replaced (see example).
In 1950, the line was redesigned into the "Thin Model", of which
this is an example. The Valiant was least expensive of the
Touchdown line to have a Truimph point, although the more exalted pens
of the line differed from it mainly in the material that the cap was
made from.
This particular item fell into my hands as to be put back into shape as
an anniversary present for a young lady in the area. It is very
similar to one of my own pens, but is of American rather than Canadian make. The only difference lies in the imprint on the body and the one the
point, as this one lacks the European flavouring in it's hallmark.
Specifications: Medium 14K point. Touchdown filler. Spring-loaded clip.
Condition: The
white dot has gone slightly tan. Slight scuff-ring from posting.
The imprints on the band are much clearer than on mine. No
brassing. There's a strange misalignment of the cap- and
body-threads which makes taking the cap off a little more of a chore
than it should be, but it's not serious and I can't quite sort out how
it's come to be, never mind fix it.
Location: Regina, Saskatchewan.
Repairs:
Seal and sac replaced, cleaning inside and out, polished.
