The Premier was, in the Balance
years, the biggest pen Sheaffer made, and the most expensive which
didn't have some kind of outsized 14K application to the cap-- the
Crest had an all-gold cap, and the Autograph had a solid gold band wide
enough to engrave with the owner's signature. It is not an
extremely long pen, but the girth is substantial. I suspect that
the original market for these things were the chaps who felt they had
to overcompensate for something, and were misguided in this urge-- a
big pen like this makes the user's hands look even smaller than they
actually are. Rondo Hatton could comfortably use this pen.
Specifications: Broad two-tone 14k
gold
point. Lever filler. 13.9 cm long capped, 15.9cm
posted.
Condition: The plastic is in brilliant shape, but all the
plating is a little off; brassing on the exterior portions, and the
mask on the point is somewhat worn away. The clip is slightly
loose, too. The ink window is quite clear and ambered only to a
bright yellow.
Repairs: Unbent a dramatic bend in the point. Replaced
dead sac with a silicon one to arrest the ambering.
Location: Miami, Florida
