The cadet was the lowest-priced pen available from Sheaffer with a
pneumatic filler. They were made for the student market, and were
fitted with interchangeable points (sadly, not the same thread as Osmiroids and Esterbrooks, so one can't use their
points as well)-- one assumes because it was expected that the students
would regularly drop their pens. These points were just about
identical to those fitted to the more basic cartridge pens. The
aim of this line was to provide to the portion of the market that was
still unconvinced on the merits of a cartridge filler, but unwilling to
shell out for the low
end of the Snorkel line.
Unlike my insane orange Cadet,
this one has a fixed clip-- the other has a spring-loaded item, which I
guess is a nod to its upscale gold-pointed status.
Specifications:
Fine steel point. Tipdip filler. 13.2cm long capped,
14.5cm posted.
Condition: Substantial matting from pocket wear and a somewhat
shallow impression but otherwise good. There's a hint of
impending brassing on the band, too.
Repairs: Replaced sac-- it being a pneumatic filler, it
got rubber rather than silicon. Cleaned feed and point. The
seal wasn't replaced, as it's still holding pressure amazingly.
Location: My collection
For sale?: $19.50, and I think that would include a new
o-ring. I don't mind
waiting for the part to fail, but I don't mean to send it out to
someone else in that state. Contact me at:
