After the Second World
War, Parker's UK division went somewhat on its own path. While
the Duofold line was wrapped up in the US in 1946, it persisted as a
lower-rank line in England into the 1960s. This Junior is one of
the later entries, appearing in 1962 (sadly, my resources don't
indicate when production ended). It's a funny little pen, looking
somewhat like a spare parts exercise or cross-breeding attempt
involving 17s, "51"s and earlier incarnations of the Duofold. The band even
preserves the cross-hatched decoration of the Vacumatic.
One of the aspects of the British Parkers which frequently draws
comment is the brilliance of the points. This one has a startling
huge glob of tipping on it, and it writes with amazing smoothness.
Specifications: Broad 14k gold
point. Aerometric filler. 13.2 cm long capped, 15.6 cm
posted.
Condition:
Somewhat matte surface from years of duty. The metal parts of the
aerometric filler have lost their plating, if plating they had, and are
now darkly patinated. There is a little brassing on the high
points of the clip's arrow-head.
Repairs: Took a dramatic droop out of the point-- there's
evidence that it was bent, but it's essentially the right shape now.
Prolonged cleaning.
Location: Vancouver,
British Columbia.
