Parker 45

Black pen with enclosed point, gold furniture

This is a British example of the 45, although that doesn't mean much other than the difference in "Made In" marking-- unlike the strange excursion of the UK Duofold, this is a company-wide specification.  The main difference between this and my previously-posted 45 is the all-plastic cap.  In theory, this defines it as a 45 Arrow, being one of the low end examples of the 45 line (a plastic cap costs less to make than a steel one, right?), but since all the references I find to the Arrow use the name interchangably with "45CT" and the letters here stand for "Chrome Trim" I'm not quite sure what to make of this version.  Since the plastic cap didn't appear until 1962, this pen can't be older than that, but otherwise all I have is speculation as to age.  There's no model numbers on the sides of the cap, but I have no idea whether there ever were with the plastic versions; perhaps it falls into the 1962-1964 window that the absence of numbers indicates, but... perhaps not.

Another point in which this does not follow the UK Duofold pattern is that the point is not greatly different from that of the US production.  There is a little bit more tipping in evidence, but the performance is pretty much the same-- that is to say, it's rather intolerant of rolling to one side or the other, but when aligned with the paper to its liking, it's a rather nice pen.  I find the thicker plastic cap takes something away from the "futuristic" styling-- it looks more like just another pen to me.

Specifications: Extra-fine 14K/585 point (the hallmark is hidden, but the point unit comes apart easily).  Cartridges/converter filler (this one didn't bring a converter with it).  13.5cm long capped, 14.2cm posted.

Condition: Hardly a mark on it-- even the matting of pocket-wear is almost absent.

Repairs:  None

Location:  My collection.

For sale:  Not this one-- I have another metal-capped model with silver-tone trim and a fine steel point which I'll sell for $23.00.  You can also try eBay, as there's usually a shoal of them available there.  To contact me, write to:
