I have mentioned the concept of third-tier pen companies elsewhere.
Esterbrook was a second-tier company, in as much as their level
of finish was on par with the first-tiers (or the low end of them, at
least) but the materials were less expensive and the savings could be
passed on to the consumer. You will notice that there is not a
hint of gold in the pen shown above, including the point.
There is not a lot different between this pen and the Esterbrook J,
apart from this one being very slightly shorter, and for a slightly
longer write-up, have a look at the longer pen. This one's main
claim to distinction is the relatively high-class point which it came
with.
Specifications: Fine 9461 steel point. Lever filler.
Condition:
Smooth body with distinct impression. The section has some marks
from what are probably teeth. 12.0cm long capped, 12.8cm to the face of the section posted (because the end-to-point length can vary depending on the point).
Repairs:
The previous owner had just replaced the sac, so I didn't even have to do that.
Location: My collection... more or less. This should properly be in the "Other People's
Pen's" line-up, as I gave it to my wife for Christmas... but it's in my
house, and we're pretty collectivist in terms of household goods.
For sale?:
No chance.
