I am sorry if you have come here looking for some information on your
own Alster glass-point pen. I know very, very little about this
pen. In general, there were several importers of low-quality pens
who brought in glass-pointed pens in the 1930s through 1950s, and this
seems to be one of them. The piston mechanism is a little higher
class than one expects for a "low-quality" pen-- that and the dark
green ink window (which is just below the threads on the body) are very
reminiscent of the Pelikan pens of the second quarter of the twentieth
century. If you know more, please fill me in-- I'm always interested to learn.
Specifications:
Glass point, produces a very broad line. Piston filler. 12.6cm long capped, 16.8cm long posted.
Condition: Light wear
on the body and cap. The cap band is heroically brassed, and the
clip, which appears to have had some gold tone applied to it initially,
is now a bright chrome. Since it arrived in the arid wilds of
Saskatchewan, the piston seal has shrunk-- likely a very elderly bit of
cork.
Repairs: Reading up on the care of old piston fillers. Updates to come.
Location: My collection.
For sale?: No. Even when I get it back in shape, it's the only glass-point pen I've got and it's pretty darn cool-looking.
